Martin Luther King Jr. Day

I love putting Little H to bed because that is when we can have out one-on-one time.  Without fail, after I read her a couple books, she will ask me tell her a story about "Lena".  Lena is a fictional tooth fairy child that I made up one time when I needed to get out of reading One Bear Lost for the millionth time.

Last week Little H asked what the next holiday would be.  I told her that it was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so she wanted a story about Lena and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Well, I took this as a great opportunity to tell her about the great things Martin Luther King Jr. did for the country (for now, I left out the sordid details of his personal life).  Somehow I related it to Lena, and I was very proud of myself for taking advantage of the great teaching moment.

Well last night, she asked again if I would tell about Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  I told her it was pretty late, so I didn't want to tell the story, but I would answer any questions she may have.  Here's what she had to say:

"So how does Martin Luther King Jr. make people come back to life after they died?"

"Um, he doesn't make people come back to life, Hon."

"Oh, right.  That's God."

So much for my teaching moment.

Oh, and apparently she's also become a teenager on Facebook  according to the two dozen pictures I just found on the camera.
