We're Thankful for Our Family
Little H is really learning to talk. I can tell because it hasn't been as easy lately to pretend that I don't know what she wants. One of the first phrases she ever started saying was "thank you" (it initially sounded more like "coo-coo").
We've confused her, though, by saying "you're welcome" in response. She must have thought we were correcting her because she says "welcome" now in place of "thank you". Out of reflex, Dan and I often say "thank you" after she says "welcome", so the whole family is all mixed up now.
Me: Here's your string cheese.
H: Welcome, Mommy.
Me: Thank you.
So either she's confused, or she's indicating that we're welcome for the chance to serve her, which is a distinct possibility, as she thinks she's the queen.
This has been going on for at least a month. I didn't even think about it when we offered to let her say the nightly prayers. We've gotten a lot better at saying them since Little H was born because we're hoping one day she'll catch on that when we say, "Bless us that we can have a good night's sleep," we're really saying, "Little H, please don't wake up screaming bloody murder at 1:30 in the morning again, and don't talk in your sleep because you do it loudly and it's creepy."
Anyway, the point of the story is that when we start listing what we're thankful for in the prayer, it goes something like this:
Me: We're thankful for our family.
H: Welcome a family.
Me: We're thankful for this day.
H: Welcome a day
Etc., Etc.
Dan and I are usually snickering so much that it's hard to get through the rest of the prayer. Gotta love that little girl.

That is about the cutest thing I've ever heard. What fun memories!
