10 Years Out
So it’s been ten years since I graduated from high school. It really seems like it’s snuck up on me. Probably because I subsequently spread my four year college degree out over ten years, and threw off my sense of time. It was nice to see a lot of people I’d lost track of over the years. I once read somewhere that people tend to look the same over time unless they get fat. (I actually remember the book I read this in, but I won’t mention the name because the reference will lose all credibility.) This seemed to hold true at our reunion. Most people looked the same to me, just more tired. I was able to chat with quite a few people I hadn’t seen in the last ten years, which was fun, but the night appropriately ended with the friendships that have stood the test of time – the girls I never lost track of.
I would never want to go back to high school, but I'm glad I had the friends that I did. I'm not sure there was a category for us. We weren't the jocks, the smart kids, the popular kids, the religious kids, parking lot kids, the drama kids, etc. I think we were just the people that were left over after everyone else was categorized.
When it got too cold at the park, we went to Robyn’s house to watch a movie that we had made in high school. Just a small independent production that could cause a lot trouble if any of us decide one day to run for public office (thankfully, I think we’re way past the statute of limitations for most of the documented crimes in that video). The movie wasn’t there, but we did get to go through old pictures and tell a lot of “remember when” stories, whilst our husbands looked on with glazed eyes.
A few of our partners in crime were MIA for the reunion, and several of our friends graduated in ’99 (not because they were held back, they were just younger), but I’ve included a couple pictures so you can see how we’ve changed, or not changed, over the years.
Go Trojans!

I was blog-stalking off of "seriously, so blessed" and noticed your debate on the born on the 4th of July lyrics. Well there IS a song that says "you were born on the 4th of July"
It's from Jason Mraz-THE REMEDY

I was in Divine Comedy at BYU and this was ALWAYS a song that we played every show, so I was like "Hey! She's right! There is a song that mentioned being born on the 4th of July!"
I hope this helps in your debate.

YEAH! I wouldn't mind at all if you used the video in a follow-up post!
And yes, meeting Jared Hess was cool. I mean he even asked me if I'd had a hamburger, so you KNOW he's a man of the people.
CU around the Web!
